What Others Are Saying About King

  • Word up: Move Chris Thomas King, already, to the top of the short list of the most innovative bluesmen you probably haven’t heard. Move him, also to the list of most interesting musicians, period. - Blues Revue
  • Chris Thomas, the son of Louisiana blues singer Tabby Thomas, is a rocker drenched in blues and soul.  His hard-hitting debut, Cry of the Prophets (Sire/Hightone), is one of this year’s best. - Chicago Tribune
  • Chris Thomas scares people. This 26 year old son of a Baton Rouge bluesman wants to play like Jimi, sing like Otis, emulate Bob Marley’s spiritual and social conscience and give up the funk la Sly. - Playboy

Our Two Cents Worth

Some people have a problem with Chris' style of the blues.  He even states his dad doesn't understand why he plays what he does, but he said that he doesn't criticize either.  We have truely been a fan from the beginning.  Being originally from a small Mississippi town near Baton Rouge we had the pleasure to visit Tabby's Blues Box on a regular occasion.  Now he did get a little bizarre on the "21st Century Blues From Da Hood" CD, but as he said at The House of Blues show he did with Gatemouth Brown and Keb' Mo' (Which was Outstanding), "Ya'll didn't like that s??? to much, did ya?" "Didn't go for that at all". So he went back to the true roots of the blues on Red Mud, probably one of the best acoustic blues CDs we have every heard.  During that show he put on a truely fabulous show, played for nearly an hour and a half and even stayed around and socialized with the crowd, signed autographs and basically just hung out and watched the show as if he were just one of the crowd. His acoustic guitar skills are first rate and second to none, give him a listen and you won't be sorry.  Check out his interview and in studio performance with Acoustic Cafe Live in Real Audio.
